Compost Area now Ready

Thanks to a grant from Edinburgh Waste Aware we now have site facilities to make compost from green waste. The easiest way of making compost is to do it yourself on your own plot but if you don’t have space then please make use of the composting area.

The facility consists of a rotating ‘tumbler’ and two wooden composting containers. Light green material such as grass cuttings can be placed in the tumbler. Just unclip the front panel, load and refasten then turn the handle a few times. The expectation is compost in 4-6 weeks.

More bulky green waste can go into whichever wooden container is currently being filled. Once full we can cover it, let nature work its magic and start filling the other.

Remember!!

  • Only green material generated on site to be composted.
  • Ensure there are no chemicals or plastic bags put into the system.
  • Remove as much soil as possible.
Within a few months there should be healthy compost available for all site members. Arrangements for distribution will be communicated later.
