Raised Beds Project Part 2
Having built about 34 raised beds we needed to fill them with top soil. The Allotment Officer supplied us with forty tonnes made in two deliveries. That is an awful lot of soil to barrow into and around the site. Fortunately we could open up the security fence and barrow soil into the site but it still took a monumental amount of effort from our plotholders with their friends and family.
The first delivery was made on 1st March when we enjoyed bright sunshine and dry conditions, the second lot on the 22nd couldn't have contrasted more. A freezing easterly wind along with snow flurries made it a weekend to be in front of the fire not loading and moving wheelbarrows. By a complete fluke a digger and dumper driver were working outside that kindly moved the soil into the site from the park in their lunch-break. This made such a difference to the time we spent and to the spirits of us doing the shifting. Thanks again guys.

Some outside help certainly moved things along....

Thankfully that is about that. Let's hope that the plots no longer flood and that all the effort was worth it. More photos later, hopefully of raised beds brimming with vegetables.
